Real-Time Linux Monitoring with Netdata

Netdata gives you real-time, per-second server monitoring with essentially zero configuration — install it, and within seconds you have a comprehensive dashboard covering CPU, memory, disk, network, and hundreds of application-specific metrics.

# One-line installer
bash <(curl -Ss https://my-netdata.io/kickstart.sh)

# Dashboard is immediately available at:

Why Per-Second Matters

Most traditional monitoring tools sample every 10-60 seconds, which smooths over and hides short-lived spikes entirely. Netdata’s per-second granularity catches brief CPU or disk I/O spikes that a coarser sampling interval would simply average away and never show at all — genuinely useful for diagnosing intermittent, hard-to-reproduce performance issues.

Beyond the Local Dashboard

# Netdata Cloud (optional, free tier available) aggregates
# multiple servers into one central dashboard, with alerting

For a single server, the local dashboard alone is genuinely useful without any additional setup — for a fleet, Netdata Cloud’s aggregation is worth connecting to, though the free local install already covers most single-server diagnostic needs on its own.
