Activate 4kn mode on a seagate harddisk

Important: Don’t use any adapter. The drive need to be connected with a real sata port.

Install the SeaChestTools:

apt install seachest

1	apt install seachest

Confirm you have the right drive:

openSeaChest_Info -d /dev/sd<Number> -i

1	openSeaChest_Info -d /dev/sd<Number> -i

Confirm your drive supports 4096:

openSeaChest_Format -d /dev/sd<Number> --showSupportedFormats

1	openSeaChest_Format -d /dev/sd<Number> --showSupportedFormats

The next step will DESTROY ALL DATA on the disk. Reformat it as 4kn. Notice: If the format hangs don’t interrupt it. Leave it for 1-2 hours. The process will complete in this time.

openSeaChest_Format -d /dev/sd<Number> --setSectorSize=4096 --confirm this-will-erase-data-and-may-render-the-drive-inoperable

Power OFF/ON the harddrive
